Hey there!
I’m Kaitlyn Makepeace Bradley, the maker behind Makepeace Designs. The name comes from my maiden name, Makepeace, which felt like the perfect fit when I started this business and has stayed with me as the brand has grown, even after I got married. I live in Durham, Connecticut with my husband, our two golden retrievers, and a little baby girl on the way. Makepeace Designs began as a small COVID-era project that thankfully lasted longer than the pandemic itself. What started as a creative outlet has grown into a business I truly love, and a greatful to share with you.
Each Product Is Handcrafted, By Me!
My love for flowers began growing up on a family farm, where my grandmother first taught me how to press them. As a kid in the 90s, I thought slipping flowers into my mom’s phone books would work just fine, even though many of them ended up molding.
Through years of trial and error, I’ve developed different techniques and learned which processes work best for specific flowers. This allows me to preserve each bloom at its best and create pieces made with care, patience, and experience.
Shop Local, Shop Small
While every product is handmade by me, Makepeace Designs would not be possible without the love and support of my family.
Many of you may have met my dad at fairs, where he helps with loading in products and setting up the tent while my mom and I focus on displays. My mom has spent many late nights in my craft room organizing flowers and opening frames while I design, and she is especially excited to take on her new role as official baby carrier at fairs starting this June.
Behind the scenes, my husband has been a constant source of encouragement. He pushed me to start this business and keeps everything running smoothly, especially when it comes to the technical side of things like this website.
